Talented singer, songwriter and performer Ayodeji Balogun better known as Wizkid, achieved a historic moment at the 2022 American Music Awards (AMAs) as he became the first artist to win Best Afrobeats Artist at the event. The singer has been nominated alongside the best afrobeats acts like Burna Boy, Tems, Fireboy DML, etc.
The singer also took home the award for best r&b song with the hit song “Essence” featuring Tems, and won the award for top acts like Beyonce, SZA, Silk Sonic, etc. These award categories were confirmed at the awards ceremony held in the United States on Sunday, November 20, 2022.
