Veteran Jamaican disc jockey has expressed his thoughts on the noisy Afrobeats genre.
Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall Disc Jockey, Rodney Intrepid Pricepopularly known as Hitmanand he shared his views on the lyrical power of Afrobeats.
The entertainment veteran spoke in a recent interview about Afrobeats’ recent success on the global dancehall scene and other interesting topics around the two genres.
Speaking in the interview, the DJ let him know that the emergence of Afrobeats on the world stage doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road for Dancehall at the same venue. Speaking on Afrobeats, DJ of the Year opined that Afrobeats only had melodies and themes, but lacked vocals.
To support his claim, Bounty was cited Burn BoyTune “Ye” claiming that the song lacks lyrical content. He said:
Afrobeats have no words. They have a lot of melody, grove, and theme. You are not singing. It’s a topic. The song just has style, melody, and theme.”

The Jamaican OG has also gone on to criticize the new crop of dance artists, claiming that they refuse to have concrete themes (theme) in their music.
In a similar vein, Bounty also claimed that the reason Afrobeats had moved at such a pace was the unity that existed among African artists, something he claimed Jamaican artists were sorely lacking.
