Music video director and producer of Burna Boy’s hit “Like To Party,” Adasa Cookey and Leriq both responded to Davido’s latest statement, “New Cat.”
Singer Davido sparked controversy online after his recent statement about the globalization of the Afrobeats sound in a recent interview with Brut Afrique, where he talked about how he and Wizkid started the trend before other artists, which he called “new felines” like Burna Boy, Rema, and Asake And others push the sound and take it to the next level.
This statement attracted reactions from fans, music journalists, other artists, as well as those close to Burna Boy.
Music video director Adasa Cookie who was responsible for the visuals for Burna Boy’s Like to Party took to his social media platform to share his reaction to the comment in a post that read:
I filmed this one in 2012. More than a decade later, he’s so relieved that he’s still a “new cat.”
Super producer Leriq responsible for some of Burna Boy’s biggest hits while he’s signed to Aristokrat Records and so far, also took to his social media platform to share his thoughts on the interview in a post that reads:
If you know, you know…if you don’t know, you don’t know! Some don’t even know Diem says I don’t know… worse!
